Local Residents Keen Eyes Earn Them Dinner on Us!
Recent reports of leafy spurge (a Wyoming State Designated Noxious Weed) earned two separate reporting parties checks for $100 each. We are so lucky to have people out working and enjoying our amazing landscapes who care enough about the natural resources to report noxious invaders. Granted, not everybody is familiar enough with our local flora to recognize these species; however, just noticing something looks out of place or doesn’t seem quite right is enough of a clue that those plants don’t belong there. We are aware that these species can cause economic or environmental harm.
With over 4.5 million acres in Park County, identifying invasive plant infestations early is critical. The sooner we act, the better our chances of controlling their spread — a strategy known as Early Detection, Rapid Response (EDRR). But with such vast terrain, Park County Weed and Pest staff can’t monitor every acre alone. That’s where you come in. By reporting suspicious or unfamiliar plants, you play a vital role in protecting our landscapes from harmful invaders.
Our local Bounty Program is a way to express our gratitude to reporting individuals and assist in protecting our resources from the impacts these species have on the environment. We encourage you to get out and experience all the outdoors has to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for plants that look out of place. Snap a photo, and if possible, include a GPS location. Report to 307-754-4521 or send information to jake@parkcountyweeds.org
